Inge Hueber

Inge Hueber is a self-taught quiltmaker living in Cologne, Germany - a country without a tradition in this field. She recognized her chance in this outsider's role, in a new freedom.

Born 1943 in East Germany, she moved to the West in her childhood and taught in Cologne until 1980, when she finally decided to get a full-time quiltmaker.

She established firm links to England, being a founder member of QuiltArt (1985) and living part of the year in Broadstairs, Kent.

She received a state-award of her own government - first time given to a quilter in Germany - and took part six times in Quilt National (1987,1989, 1993, 1999, 2003, 2009), always traveling to the openings in Athens, Ohio/USA.

One of her quilts got included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York (2002), formerly the American Craft Museum.

She is a keen traveler interested to meet persons around the world and to lecture about "Making Quilts and Journeys", her personal survey of nearly 30 years, always updated.

You will get an insight in her process of thinking and working, and how she has developed and changed in all these years. Slides will explain her work step by step, not just finished quilts, but also "work in progress" to understand her methods and techniques.

So far she has been lecturing and exhibiting in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Canada, the United States and Europe. In 2010 she will be exhibiting and traveling in Japan (10th Quilt Nihon Exhibition Japan) and lecturing in Canada and again in England

If you are interested in her talk, she will travel to any place you suggest. You only have to pay a fair fee for her lecture, she will cover all travel expenses. Sorry she does not teach.
